For the first time in 20 years, Minnesota has a champion. The Minnesota Lynx, who were the WNBA’s premier team this past season, continued that dominance throughout the playoffs and finished with a title after beating Atlanta 73-67 in Game Three of the WNBA Finals.With the win, the Lynx completed the series sweep to capture the franchise’s first-ever WNBA Championship and Minnesota’s first professional sports championship since the 1991 Minnesota Twins. The Lynx defeated the Atlanta Dream 73-67 tonight behind a balanced team effort featuring six different players with seven or more points. After the game, Seimone Augustus was named the 2011 WNBA Finals MVP, averaging 24.7 points per game during the three-game series.

Fans and media members are invited to welcome home the Lynx players and coaching staff at the baggage claim area of Terminal 1 tomorrow, Saturday, October 8. The Lynx will travel to Minneapolis from Atlanta on Delta Flight #744, which is scheduled to land in Minneapolis at 4:30 p.m. CDT.

A Tuesday, October 11 parade down Nicollet Mall will commence at 11:30 a.m., followed by a rally at Target Center at 12:15pm. Further information on the downtown festivities celebrating the Lynx’ Championship run will be announced this weekend.
