SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the team has acquired defenseman Tom Gilbert from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Nick Schultz. The team also acquired defenseman Steven Kampfer from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Greg Zanon. The Wild also announced that forward Brad Staubitz was claimed off re-entry waivers by the Montreal Canadiens.

 

    Gilbert, 29 (1/10/83), has posted 17 points (3-14=17) in 47 games while leading all Oilers skaters with 22:47 time on ice (TOI) this season. He tallied six power play points (2-4=6). The 6-foot-2, 206-pound native of Bloomington, Minn., has skated 384 games over six seasons with Edmonton, totaling 158 points (33-125=158). Gilbert was Colorado’s fourth-round pick (No. 129 overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft. He played high school hockey at Bloomington-Jefferson and played collegiately at Wisconsin. Gilbert will wear No. 77 with the Wild.

 

    Kampfer, 23 (9/24/88), has two assists and was a plus-six in 10 games for Boston this season, while adding five points (1-4=5) in 12 games with AHL Providence. He skated in 38 games for the Bruins in 2010-11, posting 10 points (5-5=10). The 5-foot-11, 197-pound native of Ann Arbor, Mich., played collegiately at Michigan, where he was twice named to the All-CCHA Tournament Team. Kampfer was Anaheim’s fourth-round pick (No. 93 overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

 

    Schultz, 29 (8/25/82), totaled three points (1-2=3) and averaged 19:35 TOI in 62 games for the Wild this season. He was selected by Minnesota in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Strasbourg, Sask., skated in a franchise-record 743 games with the Wild, picking up 128 points (26-102=128), 322 PIM and a plus-eight rating.

 

    Staubitz, 27 (7/28/84), recorded 73 penalty minutes (PIM) while averaging 6:30 TOI in 43 games for the Wild this season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alta., has skated in 196 NHL games with Minnesota and San Jose, posting 18 points (8-10=18) and 432 PIM.

 

    Zanon, 31 (6/5/80), skated 39 games for the Wild in 2011-12, totaling six points (2-4=6). The 5-foot-11, 202-pound native of Burnaby, B.C., has notched 54 points (11-43=54), 198 PIM and a plus-three rating in 432 contests with Nashville and Minnesota.
