Eden Prairie, MN (April 17, 2012) – For the first time in 4 years, the Minnesota Vikings will start the NFL season within the friendly confines of Mall of America Field. The Vikings will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 9 with kickoff scheduled for Noon on FOX. When opening the NFL season at home, the Vikings are 17-7 all time.
The Vikings will play a total of 6 games against 4 playoff teams (Det, GB, Hou, SF) from 2011. Minnesota will appear on NFL Network for the first time since 2006, hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, October 25 at 7:20 p.m.
For the first time in team history, the Vikings will play all 4 games against Green Bay and Chicago in the final 6 weeks of the season. Minnesota only has 1 divisional game (9/30 @ Det) in the first 9 weeks of the year. The Vikings will play Green Bay twice in December, something that has never happened in their 102-game history.
Minnesota’s Week 11 bye, on 11/18, is the teams’ latest bye week since 1999. The Vikings will host just 2 home games after their bye week (12/9 vs. Chi and 12/30 vs. GB).
After starting the 2012 season in Minnesota, the Vikings will travel to Indianapolis in Week 2 for their first regular season appearance at Lucas Oil Field. Minnesota will then host the defending NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers before traveling to Detroit for their first NFC North matchup of the season in Week 4.
The Tennessee Titans will be making a trip to Minnesota for the first time since 2004 and for the 3rd consecutive season, the Vikings will face the Washington Redskins on the road. Head Coach Leslie Frazier is 2-0 at FedEx Field. After traveling to Washington, the Vikings will host two consecutive home games against Arizona and Tampa Bay. This will be the 5th season in a row where the Vikings and Cardinals have met.
Before the Week 11 bye, Minnesota will travel to Seattle and host Detroit. The Vikings last played in Seattle in 2006. After the bye, the Vikings will hit the road in consecutive weeks to face NFC North opponents Chicago and Green Bay for Weeks 12 and 13. Chicago will quickly reappear on the schedule as they come to Mall of America Field for a Week 14 tilt.
Weeks 15 and 16 will feature the Vikings final road games of the 2012 season as they go to St. Louis and Houston. Minnesota last played in Houston in 2004. The Green Bay Packers will come to Minnesota for the 2012 regular season finale.
