The Minnesota State House tonight passed the bill to build a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings by a 73-58 count in favor. The new 1-billion dollar stadium would be built on the same site that the Metrodome currently stands.

The big news, besides its passage however, is that the house version of the bill asks the Vikings to contribute 100 million dollars more than they originally offered…and decreases the state’s responsibility by that same $100 million, to less than$300 million dollars. The money would be raised by charitable gambling revenues through a new electronic pull tab system.

The bill now goes to the state senate where it is expected to be taken up on Tuesday.
