Tigers trample Twins 10-6; Gardy ejected again

TWINS NOTES: ­· The Twins fell to 5-9 in decisions vs. left-handed pitchers and are now 4-6 vs. the AL Central this season.

· Anthony Swarzak made his first start since April 19…he made nine appearances in the bullpen between starts…Swarzak fell to 0-4, 8.34 (18.1 ip, 17 er) with 30 hits allowed in four starts this season compared to 0-0, 3.06 (17.2 ip, 6 er) with nine hits allowed in nine relief appearances.

· This was the 11th time this season that a Twins starter has thrown 4.0-or-fewer innings in a start and the sixth time a starter has allowed six-or-more runs in a start (45 games)…this was the third time this season the Twins pitching staff has allowed 10-or-more earned runs in a game.

· After allowing four runs in the second inning tonight, the Twins have now been outscored 12-40 in the second inning alone this season.

· Denard Span (3-for-5) now has 23 multi-hit games against the Tigers and has a batting average of .359 (80-for-223) with 10 doubles, eight triples, 23 rbi, 24 walks and 42 runs scored in 54 career games vs. Detroit…this was his fourth game with 3-or-more hits this season.

· Brian Dozier had his fourth multi-rbi game of the season tonight…he has 12 rbi in 18 games with the Twins…coming into today, the 12 rbi since May 7 would lead all Major League shortstops in that category.

· Josh Willingham’s double in the seventh inning snapped an 0-for-11 streak at the plate for him.

· Jamey Carroll and Ron Gardenhire were ejected from tonight’s game in the bottom of the eighth inning…that was the 61st career ejection for Gardy and the second this season…it was the first career ejection for Carroll.

· The Twins have scored six-or-more runs in a game 14 times this season and in those 14 games, they have allowed at least five runs 10 times.
