Twins drop game two of double dip to Marlins, 8-5

TWINS NOTES: ­· The Twins snapped their five-game win-streak with a loss in the second game of today’s split double header…the five-game win-streak was the longest by Minnesota since the Twins won five in a row from June 30 (Game 1)-July 3, 2012…the loss also snapped a streak of seven straight individual game wins in split double headers dating back to the beginning of 2012…the Twins are 79-51 in Interleague play since the beginning of 2006, including 45-22 at home.

· Mike Pelfrey allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two in 4.2 innings tonight…with the loss against the Marlins, Pelfrey is now 1-9 in his 18 career starts against the Marlins…Pelfrey has not earned a win against a National League team in 10 straight starts (since August 24, 2011 at Philadelphia).

· Brian Dozier has now scored a run in five straight games…Dozier has been the Twins leadoff hitter in four of the last five games…in those five games, the Twins leadoff hitters are hitting .391 (9-for-23) with six runs scored and two walks.

· Eduardo Escobar collected his third multi-hit game of the season going 3-for3 with a walk and two runs scored…the three hits tied his career-high, also April 9, 2013 at Kansas City…it marked the fourth straight game with a hit as he is hitting .600 (6-for-10) with four runs scored in those four…Escobar made his fifth start of the season at shortstop and is hitting .500 (9-for-18) in those five starts.

· Joe Mauer drove in a run in the third inning with a single to right field…he has eight RBI on the season…with Mauer’s single he tied Bucky Harris for 18th on the Twins/Senators (since 1901) all-time hit list at 1,295…Mauer’s single in the fifth inning passed Harris for sole possession of 18th on the franchise hit list…with two hits on the night, Mauer now has eight multi-hit games on the season and 358 career multi-hit games.

· Aaron Hicks drew his 11th walk of the season in the sixth inning tonight and is now tied with Josh Willingham for the Twins lead in walks… has a hit and RBI in two of his last three games… has reached base safely in six straight games, since April 15 vs. Los Angeles-AL…in those six has walked eight times.
