Brett Favre is retired; he will not be the Vikings QB in 2009. This is not the first time Favre has ruined my day - just off the top of my head, I can think of four more:
1. September 26, 1999: Favre’s last minute TD pass to Corey Bradford gives the Pack 23-20 win at Lambeau.
2. November 6, 2000: With the score tied at 20 in OT Favre heaves up a pass intended for Vikings CB Chris Dishman who proceeds to bobble and kick the ball into the waiting arms of Packers WR Antonio Freeman who then rolls around on the ground, somehow secures the football, gets up untouched and scores the game winning TD. Seriously, this really happened.
3. November 14, 2004: A spirited Vikings comeback ties the game at 31 before Favre directs his team into field goal position and Ryan Longwell (we like him now) nails the game winner as time expires.
4. December 24, 2004: See Above.
I am sure there are a few more I have been able to repress. Today he did it again, but it’s not that bad. The Vikings are no worse off than they were before this melodrama. If Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels are pros with any pride they should be even more anxious to prove themselves to their coaches, teammates and yes, us fans.
We’ve still got the best running back in the NFL, one of the best defensive ends and an exciting rookie in Percy Harvin (please sign him soon), among other things. That makes me feel better, hopefully it will do the same for you.
