Randy Moss will always hold a special place in Vikings history and in the hearts of many fans. He burst onto the scene and rewrote the rookie record books in 1998, starting a string of Metrodome sellouts that is still intact today. When Dennis Green and Cris Carter left following the 2001 season, officially turning the page on the 1990s, Moss remained and excelled.

While the Vikings didn’t accomplish much as a team from 2002-04, Moss always kept it interesting, whether it was it spectacular play on the field or his wacky, sometimes criminal antics off of it. Eventually of course, Moss wore out his welcome in Minnesota and was unceremoniously dealt to Oakland in 2005 where he spent two seasons lost in the NFL’s Black Hole before being rescued by Bill Bellichik in New England.

With the Vikings on their bye week, I thought this would be a good time to catch up with an old friend:

In 40 games as a Patriot, Moss has hauled in 39 TDs, including an NFL record 23 in 2007. The Pats meanwhile are 33-7 with the Super Freak in their line-up. In Sunday’s 27-17 win over division rival Miami, Moss caught 6 passes for 147 yards and a TD, giving him 140 receiving TDs in 178 games. He is currently tied with Buffalo’s Terrell Owens for 2nd all time in that department, although Owens has played in 19 more games.

Moss’s 147 yards yesterday gave him 13,913 in his career and catapulted him ahead of Henry Ellard and former teammate Cris Carter into 7th place all time. James Lofton is next on the list with 14,004.
