The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off one of the worst weeks in franchise history. The team ran the gauntlet playing 5 games in 7 days (3 on the road) and lost all 5 by an average of nearly 22 points per game. All told, the squad has dropped 10 straight following their last second win over New Jersey on opening night.

One positive in this dismal season has been the return of swingman Corey Brewer. Last December a torn ACL ended his sophomore campaign after just 15 games, but the 7th overall pick in the 2007 draft has returned to action this year and remains a key piece of the Wolves plans.

I caught up with the former University of Florida star following today’s practice and discussed his health, team, jump shot and even his hairdo.

DZ: You guys are coming off a tough week – 5 games, all losses – how do you keep your heads up after something like that?

BREWER: It’s tough. You try to forget about them to be honest, try to forget about them. Coach (Rambis) tries to take the positives out of the games. We did some good stuff, but had some bad third quarters, down the stretch we lost some games. You just have to move forward and try to get better.

DZ: How would you describe the morale on the team right now?

BREWER: It’s not as down as people would think it would be; we’ve lost 10 straight I think – that’s a lot of games. We are just trying to turn it around and now everybody says we’ve got to take it one game at a time. We play tomorrow against Houston. If we can get a win there, you never know. We just need a couple of wins to get the team back together.

DZ: How about you personally, how would you rate your season from an individual standpoint?

BREWER: It’s not too good. When you are losing, it doesn’t matter if you are individually playing good or not. It’s tough when you are losing. You want to win and as a competitor it doesn’t matter, if your losing it’s never good.

DZ: You’ve got to be happy that you’ve been healthy; do you have a lot of confidence in the knee right now?

BREWER: Yeah, I am happy that I am healthy. That was a big concern that I was going to be healthy all season. The beginning of the season has been good, so if I can just keep my knee healthy, I will be happy.

DZ: Do you have full confidence in the knee right now?

BREWER: I am still working on it. Sometimes when I go to jump off my right leg, you can tell – I can tell – that I am not jumping like I should be jumping.

DZ: Going back last year to the injury, what kind of mental process is there (needed to get over it)?

BREWER: It’s tough; you just try not to think about it. That’s the only thing you can really do because when you think about it you are going to do stuff you shouldn’t be doing or you are going to make plays you would never make. You just try not to think about it.

DZ: Is there anything positive you can take from that, maybe just appreciating playing more?

BREWER: You appreciate it. It makes you want to play harder. I appreciate every minute I am on the court because last year I wasn’t out there at all so every time I get to play, it’s OK.

DZ: One part of your game a lot of people say you need to work on is your outside shot. They say your form is good, the arc is good, rotation (is good), but you tend to get a little off balance.

BREWER: Yeah, I have been trying to get on-balance….all you can do is work on it. I can only get better; can’t get any worse (laughs).

DZ: Has (assistant coach) Bill Laimbeer helped you at all; he was such a good jump shooter back in the day?

BREWER: He talks to me a lot. Coach Rambis talks to me a lot; all the coaches are helping me, they are all trying to give me a little bit of advice.

DZ: Obviously you want to be remembered in the pros too, but you are always going to be remembered for your college career playing at Florida. Do you maintain a relationship with those guys? It had to be a pretty special thing, winning two National Championships.

BREWER: I still talk to all of them. Marreese Speights is in Philly right now, Al Horford is with the Hawks, Joakim (Noah with the Bulls), Taurean Green is overseas in Greece, Lee Humphrey is in Germany. So, I try to talk to all of the guys, that’s a bond you won’t ever forget.

DZ: Is there a lot of texting and that kind of stuff?

BREWER: Yeah, we text if they see me playing good, if they see me having a bad game, they’ll text me. We just try to keep each other up.

DZ: One last thing, I noticed you had the little mohawk thing going earlier in the season, is that going to come back or are you done with that?

BREWER: I don’t know; I had to try something new. We’ve got to get some wins right now, so I’ll try anything (laughs).
