After a hard-fought 3-2 loss on Friday night, the University of Minnesota Duluth Mens hockey team came out firing at the University of Denver mens hockey team on Saturday looking to regain some lost ground on the WCHA leaders. The Bulldogs took a 3-1 first period lead with goals from Wade Bergman,Jack Connolly and Travis Oleksuk. Denver snapped back in the second period scoring two goals to send the game tied into the third period. Sophomore Goaltender Brady Hjelly kept the Bulldogs in the game, fighting off a five minute major(Jordan Fulton), giving his team a charge with a flurry of breath taking saves. Goals from Kyle Schmidt, Connelly(2) and a night-capper from Rob Bordson gave the Bulldogs a 6-3 win over the first place Pioneers. Minnesota-Duluth’s(11-6-1) next conference game is against the second place Colorado College Tigers(11-4-3) the second week of January. Photo by Jay Wilcox
