It was almost by script. Slow start; halftime adjustments; fast finish. That’s been the story of the Gopher men’s basketball team this year so far and Wednesday night at  Williams Arena vs Akron was no different as they come back to beat the Zips 66-58. They are now 10-and-1 on the season in non-conference play.
Akron ran out to a 32-27 halftime lead thanks to 45 percent shooting from beyond the 3 point line…another bugaboo of the Gophers this year. the inability to defend the 3 point line.

But the second half was all Minnesota. Hoffarber led Minnesota with 13 points to put him over the 1,000 point mark for his career. Trevor Mbakwe also chipped in with 13 and 13 rebounds. Rodney Williams had 12 points, 10 of the 12 on dunks. Williams, in what was probably his best game as a Gopoher, also had 10 rebgounds and 2 blocked shots.

Gophers are now off until December 23 when they host South Dakota State. They will open the Big Ten season at Wisconsin later this month.
